Ethiopia

Sidama is one of the most highly-regarded growing regions in Ethiopia. Coffee grows in the fertile highlands of the Rift Valley where elevations reach as high as 2200 masl. This offering was naturally processed, meaning the coffee was dried with the whole cherry intact. This processing method greatly reduces water waste and results in a fruit-centric cup with notes of mixed berries and chocolate.

The Oromia Coffee Farmers Cooperative Union (OCFCU) is an umbrella organization established in 1999. OCFCU supports more than 400 individual cooperatives and more than 400,000 households – they are by far the largest unionization of farmers in the country. Premiums from coffee exports are returned directly to farmers, and the union funds organic farming training programs and food security initiatives.
